What I Love About Blogging

There’s a reason why I stopped blogging a few years ago. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy it. It was an outlet that allowed me to express myself in my favorite way — writing.  Plus, I got to connect with an incredible community of writers. A community that I found on Twitter (which as we all know is now known as X).

When I started blogging four years ago, I started with the intention to improve my writing skills. And if I had fun along the way, all the better for me. But after I started blogging, I learned that there was a lot more to blogging than just composing a post and hitting publish. You know, there’s the blog promotion part, having to get out there and actively promote. Because otherwise, how can people find your blog? They won’t find it, not right away at least.

That led to me posting across Twitter – Pinterest – Facebook. And I also started posting on Instagram. If you’ve kept count, that is four platforms. And anyone who is in digital marketing knows that managing even just one platform is a lot.

I guess we could say that I soon got burned out. Having to write a post nearly every day. Then promote the blog post. And promoting the blog post isn’t as simple as just hitting the share button. I mean, if you are a celebrity or influencer, then yes it would be pretty simple. But for the rest of us, we’ve got to find that community. It’s not as simple as just clicking the share button. You’ve got to engage, you’ve got to talk to people. That’s how you grow on social media.

Well, I did that for many weeks, months, two years actually. And after awhile, I got burned out. I felt a little vulnerable sharing bits and pieces of my life. I started with the intent to just write a blog post but then that escalated to having to create Reels and Stories just to keep up.

So, I gave up. I hate to say it, but I’m being transparent. Not everyone is cut out to be an influencer. Actually even influencers don’t share every little detail. You’ve got to set boundaries and separate the real life from your online persona.

Now you are probably wondering, “so why are you here? Why are you blogging again?”

Good question.

When I left 2 years ago, I intended to come back. I wanted to come back stronger than ever. I wanted to come back because I missed blogging. I didn’t miss the promotion part and putting myself out there. I missed what blogging was back in 2003 when thousands – millions – of people flocked to AOL journals and started writing. Back then, we used a simple layout and format. There was no SEO. It was just regular people sharing their lives. That is what I love about blogging.

Today, everything is so competitive. Blogs are not what they used to be.

But here, I want to change that. I want to write as if it’s 2003 again. Never mind SEO or Google or satisfying some the algorithm. I want to write just for me, and be a part of the community. And that is what I’ve always loved about blogging.

  1. I struggle with blogging as much as others mainly from lack of desire, lack of content.I work full time and am unable to really spend all my spare time developing a great blog, right now I have two mediocre blogs I try to keep up with.
