I meant to post yesterday, the first day of the month. I wanted to post everyday because of blogtober. I thought blogtober would be the perfect time to kickstart my blogging efforts.
And yet, here I am. It’s the second day of October. And I am putting out my first post.
I’m excited to start. I participated in blogtober four years ago for the first time ever. It was a great time, and gave me the motivation I needed to write. I didn’t care what I wrote, or when, or even the quality of the writing. I just wanted to write and express whatever I wanted.
So, I am doing it again. I’m joining in on this celebration. I know it will get me in the mindset of writing everyday. I will have about thirty (if I’m lucky) solid blog posts on here. And on November 1st, I will be able to look back and be proud of what I did in October 2024.
If you are considering participating in blogtober, I urge you to do so. If you are unsure due of time (which I totally get), here are some blogtober tips to help keep you motivated and on track.
1. Create a space for writing
My first tip is simply this – create a space within your home that is just for writing. It can be the corner of your living room or a closet, anything, anywhere. You just need a quiet place with your laptop, maybe a desk and comfy chair, and a good light source. Consider adding some personal touches to really customize the space and make it your own.
2. Schedule a time in your calendar
Whatever project management tool you use, go ahead and schedule a time in your calendar. Block out time increments of thirty minutes to an hour. It can be first thing in the morning when you wake up, or the last thing you do before you turn in for the night. It doesn’t matter when. You just need a dedicated time block that you will use just for the sole purpose of writing.
3. Let yourself write
When you sit in your little cozy space in your chosen block of time, just let yourself write. Don’t think. Put fingers to keyboard and write the first thing on your mind. Let the first thought become a paragraph and before long you will have a blog post. It might be a long rambling one without any purpose, but that doesn’t matter. The important thing is that you are writing.
4. Connect with other bloggers
Blogging can sometimes feel lonely. You are often alone in your own little space. And it can often feel lonely not be around other humans. While it may seem counterproductive since many writers are introverts, connecting with other people is good for you. Especially if they are also bloggers. They will be able to relate. And together you can support each and build a community.
5. Keep track of your content
There are two types of writers. The first type likes to plan everything. And the second type just wants to let the words take its course. Regardless of which side of the fence you are on, it’s important to have some type of organization. You need to be able to plan and keep track of your content. This way you can be sure you aren’t writing about the same topic twice.
6. Consider seasonal content
It can be tough to come up with content ideas. The best inspiration comes from the world around us and the things we see. Blogtober happens in October, during the fall. Consider writing about this season. Write about your favorite fall movies, treats, and outings. Plus, the weather’s getting cooler and it’s perfect for going on adventures with your family or friends.
7. Share your expertise
One way to quickly lose interest and motivation is by writing about the same old mundane thing. Consider adding some interest and value to your reader by sharing your expertise. What are you good at? What value can you provide? Are you a high school science teacher? Write a blog post about a funny moment in the classroom. Are you a marketer? Provide tips for other bloggers on how to promote themselves. Are you a closet knitter? Write demos and knitting patterns and share them with the world.
8. Remember this one thing
And lastly, always remember to be your authentic self. Write for you. Share your thoughts, who you are, what you enjoy doing, and you will find a community who enjoys doing the same things you do. Always be yourself and your essence will shine through. And you will keep yourself motivated and writing all month long.
Tell me in the comments below, are you participating in blogtober this year? Let’s motivate each other!

I try to do some of them but could be better at it for sure. Creating a new blog now as we speak aimed to entertain those who enjoy the outdoors and photography.
That would be a fun read! Thanks for commenting 🙂
A very helpful post. I will try to write some seasonal content, as in my country we’re having festivals back to back at the moment, so yeah I think it will be fun to write about.
Happy Blogtober!!!
Happy blogtober! Excited to read more about the festivals you are having 🙂
